Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is GiveToView safe?
Yes. We thoroughly check the credentials of charities and confirm their details before registering them on the site so you can be absolutely sure the money you raise is going to the right place. Also, all donations are made through Paypal, the most well established and widely trusted payment system on the net.
  • How do I find out who has seen my video?
Every video comes with a link to its own account. This will tell you who has watched it and how much they have given, as well as the total you’ve raised so far.
  • I’d like to get the charity I work for onto the site. How do I do that?
So long as you’re a registered charity it couldn’t be easier and membership is free. Get in touch and we’ll get the ball rolling.
  • How much of the money I raise goes to the cause I am supporting?
GiveToView takes 5% of each donation – 5p in the pound. This will cover the cost of processing and storing videos, keeping the site running and hopefully enable us to develop planned new features. Donations are also subject to Paypal’s transaction fees. These vary between 5% and 5p and a special rate of 1.4 % and 20p, whichever works out best for the charity. These rates compare very favourably with other methods of fundraising. Where applicable, donations are eligible for Gift Aid. This means the charity receives an extra 25% on top the amount they get from you – a £1 donation becomes a £1.25p donation. The creator of the video does not receive any money from your donation.
  • Why is there no page where I can browse other peoples’ videos?
Because we thought videos would best be shared amongst people who know each other and through their social networks. We also wanted to keep the site as simple as possible. This may change in the future.
  • Can people make donations if they don’t have a Paypal account?
Yes. You don’t need a Paypal account to make a donation. You can use a credit or debit card too. It just takes a bit longer.
  • How much do you charge charities to be a member of GiveToView?
    Nothing. It’s absolutely free.
  • Can I make sure my video is only seen by the people I send it to?
Yes. You can choose to do this when you upload it. However, there’s nothing to stop your friends from forwarding it on so if you don’t want this to happen you need to tell them not to. Of course, the more people who see your video, the more money you will raise.
  • Can international charities join GiveToView?
    Yes. Get in touch.
  • Why don’t you keep videos up on the site forever?
Because storing lots of videos ends up costing lots of money and we want to get as much cash as possible going to good causes. You can always upload the same video again if you want to share it again. Just make sure you keep a copy on your computer.
  • I want to take my video down? How do I do that?
Unfortunately you can’t. But we will take it down after 30 days. In the meantime, don’t share your link with anyone and no one will see it.
  • How many times can I watch a video?
If you use the same browser and don’t delete the cache you can watch a video as many times as you like for as long as it’s stored on the site.
  • The charity I want to support isn’t on the site. What can I do?
Let us know the name of the charity you’d like to see on this site. We’ll contact them on your behalf and ask them if they’d like to sign up. Alternatively, you could browse the categories on the Charities page to look for a charity that works in the same field.
  • Does GiveToView work on mobile?
Yes. You can make donations and watch videos via iOS and Android devices. You can also upload videos which means it's possible to make a fundraising video whenever inspiration strikes. Some versions of Android may not be compatible. Please upload from your Mac or PC instead.
  • Is it true you can’t hurt yourself making videos for GiveToView?
Unfortunately not. Despite the best efforts of our developers, the laws of physics still apply to people making videos for good causes so please be careful.
